A Marathoners Journey Back to the Pavement

January 6, 2017

This week is a special week for the MoveU Unfiltered Podcast because we have our first guest on the show- and I must say it was a blast doing this with her!

Her name is Rani Smith.  Rani had been loving her life, and pursing her passion of running for the past 14 years by completing 3 1/2 marathons per year.

Unfortunately, a couple years ago that all changed.  It started out with a tweak in her knee, then muscle stiffness which caused recovery to slow, and then came the back pain.

She didn’t realize it at the time, but over the next two years, her recreational running and half marathons had dwindled down to nothing. She lost her drive and motivation, and she was miserable.

When she refused to accept that she wouldn’t be able to run again, she began seeking help from her medical doctor, chiropractors, and physical therapists.  Despite her efforts, her condition was not improving. It became disheartening when she was getting better.

Then, a physical therapist aide helped Rani find the muscle that was at the root of her back pain, the Quadratus Lumborum.  After searching for answers Rani discovered MoveU, and made the journey from Las Vegas to San Diego for guidance at our office.  It was at the point that her journey truly began.

Now, Rani is ON FIRE, working her way up the recovery ladder and has her sights set on achieving her first half marathon in over 2 years this June.  She’s excited to get back on track with her 3 marathons per year and it doesn’t look like anything can stop her.

Listen and learn about what relit her fire and what she’s now doing every day to get back to doing what she loves. I promise at the end of this, you will be a Rani Supporter!

Scoliosis - Control the Controllable’s

January 3, 2017
We assume that you have pain, don’t like the way you look, or the way you feel. We're willing to bet that either a nurse, chiropractor, or doctor told you that you have Scoliosis, correct? Did they tell you what to do about it? We know that you want answers - and that you also want to feel better.

The standardized method of determining if a person has Scoliosis is an x-ray that shows more than 10 degrees of lateral (sideways) curvature of the spine. This is called "The Cobb Angle".

Let's say that you have been diagnosed with Scoliosis, and that the result of the imbalances from your abnormal curvature of the spine is pain or dysfunction. The word Scoliosis is as abused as the word “stress”. It gives you an answer - but with absolutely no strategy on what to do about it. Unfortunately, there are many unknowns with scoliosis. Searching for answers to unanswerable questions will lead you down the road of frustration. So what do you do?  Do you hold on to that diagnosis and blame your problems on “Scoliosis”. No!

Let's step back and look at the bigger picture. The only thing that you can control - are the things you have control over. You have the ability to take control, so take control of what you can today!

Physically, you have the ability to control your flexibility, your strength, and your balance. You can also test each side and determine your weaknesses or imbalances - and improve upon them. Mentally, by taking control of your body- you will empower your mind and gain confidence.  You will learn.  You will discover.  You will be able to live an amazing life. You just have to make the choice to do so.

You must quit blaming “Scoliosis” for your problems and take action. You must put your knowledge to the test and become a practitioner, meaning that you practice what you learn. You must do this daily until it becomes a habit. Until you don't have to think about, you just do it.

Everyone has their own problems, some people just have the ability to take control and handle them better than others. It's time to roll up your sleeves and get to work. YOU CAN DO THIS!

Be the Hero of Your Own Story- Don’t look for one…

December 22, 2016

When people suffer an injury or any other challenge - fear and short term thinking can take over.  This leads to paralysis - a helplessness- and you desperately look for someone to save you.

This is a natural response - but a reactive response - and not a proactive response.

In virtually every story told - there is a hero.  The hero is not perfect.  The hero has problems and struggles.  He then meets a guide who gives them a plan.  If the hero follows the plan - he succeeds.  If he does not, he fails.

In order to succeed YOU have to execute the plan.  The guide doesn't execute it for you! Did Mr. Miyagi fight the fight, or did Karate Kid?

If you don't execute - and expect the guide to do the work for you - you will become frustrated - point fingers - and ultimately fail.

Be the hero of your own story.
